Bodywork: Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, and Acupuncture
Summer is a time of warmth and abundance. It is the season for enjoying the natural world’s nourishing gifts. Whether you are spending time in the garden, being active, socializing with friends, or home with the kids - It is important to integrate self-care into your summertime routine. Bodywork during this season can help you feel integrated and whole within your body. This is very nurturing for both your mind and body, and gives you the opportunity for emotional and physical healing.
Hydrate and Stay Cool
To stay hydrated drink plenty of water and implement cooling foods into your diet. You can muddle mint and add cucumber or watermelon slices to your water—these are all considered cooling in Chinese medicine.
It’s important to stretch this time of year because of the vibrant Yang energy that’s coursing through the body. In the summer months, when Yang is at its peak, our bodies are running warmer and are primed for some good stretching. Try cooling down with a Restorative or Yin Yoga class.
In Chinese medicine, the organ associated with summer is the Heart, and the emotion associated with the Heart is joy. This is the opportune time to cultivate joy in the simplest ways. Be grateful for nature’s abundance, seek and nurture relationships, and do things that make you smile both internally and externally. The more joy you take in this time of year, the more you will have in store to carry you through the more introspective seasons ahead.
Enjoy Seasonal Produce
Summer is a great time to try new types of fruits and vegetables that are in season. Make it a challenge to try new types of fruits and veggies with your weekly shopping, and visit the local farmer’s markets to explore local produce.
Wishing you a happy and healthy summer!
